In the interest of transparency and accountability, this year the Election Board will make public every time it finds a candidate has violated Election Rules and issues a sanction in response.
Complaints were reported to the Election Board that Daniel Amsini solicited votes with electronic devices during the Wednesday morning voting period.
By a vote of 6-0 with 1 member absent, the Election Board determined that Amsini violated Election Rule #10, which prohibits candidates and their campaign affiliates from soliciting votes with electronic devices.
By a vote of 6-0 with 1 member absent, the Election Board determined that the proper sanction for these violations was a total ban of the Jankoski-Amsini campaign from the University Center and True Grits Dining Hall.
This ban will be in force beginning at 9:30am and through both the morning and evening voting periods (9:30am-12:00pm and 8:00pm-12:00am). The ban applies to anyplace inside the University Center or True Grits Dining Hall as well as any distance within 10 feet of the University Center and any distance within 50 feet of the Dining Hall.
Jankoski, Amsini, and anyone working for their campaign are forbidden from performing any campaign activity whatsoever, including but not limited to, wearing a campaign t-shirt, passing out campaign literature, promoting their campaign via word of mouth, or soliciting votes, inside True Grits Dining Hall or within 50 feet of the building. Anyone disobeying this order will be told to leave the area immediately.
If Jankoski, Amsini, or their campaign affiliates disobey this official Election Board order, the Election Board will take appropriate action.
Additionally, the Election Board is officially putting the Jankoski-Amsini campaign on notice. If the Election Board receives credible evidence that their campaign is continuing to violate Election Rule #10, the sanction will be dire.
The Election Board would like to remind students that we rely on the evidence they provide us to enforce Election Rules. If students witness anyone campaigning for Jankoski or Amsini in the University Center or Dining Hall during either voting period or witness members of their campaign soliciting votes with electronic devices at ANY time or location, they should report it to the Election Board with any and all evidence.
In accordance with the SGA Constitution, "All decisions of the Elections Board are final and not subject to appeal."
Any student may file a complaint about potential violations of Election Rules by emailing the Election Board Chair, Evan Leiter-Mason, at leiter1@umbc.edu.
