Evan Leiter-Mason, Election Board Chair
Year: Sophomore
Major: Political Science and Economics
Fun Fact: Die Hard is my favorite Christmas movie.
Reason for Joining the Election Board: I served on the Election Board last year as a regular member and saw up-close how dysfunctional the SGA election process has become. I believe that UMBC students deserve a safe, inclusive, and constructive election process, which is why I have fought hard for reforms to deliver a better election for students and continue to fight hard to enforce the Election Rules to their fullest extent as Election Board Chair.
Jenette Phillips, Election Board Member
Year: Sophomore
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Fun Fact: I lived in Iceland for 4 years!
Reason for Joining the Election Board: Last year during SGA Elections I was subjected to the voter harassment that many students on campus were battling or aware of. I was not only troubled by the number of infractions to UMBC Election policies that were being made, but that some of the methods of campaigning used, if applied to an election off campus, would have broken local and state laws. Seeing as how college is a time in someone's life to begin the transition into independence, I wanted to make a difference. The Election Board gives me a change to stand at the forefront of fighting against voter harassment and uphold our nation's ethical principles.
Sophia Lopresti, Election Board Member
Year: Freshman
Major: Global Studies of Health, Development, and the Environment
Minors: Spanish and Emergency Health Services
Fun Fact: I worked in a medical/dental clinic in rural Panama over spring break with Global Brigades (shoutout!)
Reason for Joining the Election Board: I believe that underclassmen should be included and well-informed to vote in this election.
Matt Hsieh, Election Board Member
Year: Junior
Major: Political Science
Fun Fact: I make YouTube videos!
Reason for Joining the Election Board: I believe that UMBC student are entitled to free and democratic elections to pick SGA candidates of their own choice.
Katie Cano, Election Board Member
Year: Senior
Major: Political Science
Minors: Judaic Studies and Legal Policy
Fun Fact: I often binge-watch Netflix and cross-stitch.
Reason for Joining the Election Board: I believe that students should feel safe and be informed in order to properly vote in the best SGA candidate.
Sandra Waithaka, Election Board Member
Year: Sophomore
Major: Political Science and Global Studies
Fun Fact: I'm obsessed with Korean dramas.
Reason for Joining the Election Board: I wanted a chance to make a difference in this year's election. To have people say that taking part in this year's election brought a sense of pride in their eyes rather than a feeling of disdain for SGA.
Tash Rahman
Year: Sophomore
Major: Biology
Fun Fact: I'm a photographer by day and a vegetarian by night.
Reason for Joining the Election Board: I'm on the Election Board to make sure everyone abides by the rules, and all candidates have a fair shot at campaigning.
