In response to a request from V-LINC (www.v-linc.org), an organization that provides technology solutions to people with disabilities, two teams of students in the ENME444 capstone course designed and built bicycles to enable the teenagers to enjoying riding bikes in their neighborhood and with their families. Riding on a bicycle and the act of pedaling has been shown to provide a positive therapeutic benefit. By making adaptations to allow parents to push their child on a bike (for Bria, below bottom) or creating a tandem arrangement to ride with her Mom (for Katy, below top), these two girls will now be able to enjoy bicycling with their families.
To date V-LINC has received over 50 requests for bicycles adapted to the needs of disabled children.
