The ACS International Research Experiences for Undergraduates (IREU) and International Research Experiences for Students (IRES) program make it possible for talented young chemical and materials scientists to do summer research in another country.
Eligibility
For the summer of 2016, students from the U.S. will be selected to conduct research in Germany, Italy, Singapore, or the United Kingdom.
Eligibility
1) U.S. citizen or permanent resident
2) Enrolled full-time in a chemistry, materials science, biochemistry, or chemical engineering program at an accredited U.S. university or college
3) Have one semester or summer of prior experience working in a research laboratory outside of normal classwork
4) Be a rising junior or senior by the end of the program with at least one semester of enrollment remaining after the summer
5) Competitive applicants will have a GPA about a 3.5
6) Please note that membership in ACS is not a judgment criteria and all students, regardless of membership status, are welcome to apply
Program Details
- 10-12 weeks
- Allowances for housing and meals
- Round-trip international airfare and local transport from the airport to your host university or institute
- A required pre-departure orientation in May/June in Washington, D.C.
- A trip to the spring 2017 ACS National Meeting in San Francisco, CA to present the results of your research
- A language training allowance
- International medical insurance coverage
