The Frozen Elephant Classic is UMBC's indoor hat tournament hosted in the RAC in early January each year. This January 5, participants will enjoy the 6th annual occurrence of the exciting tournament.
Volunteer Roles:
In order to make this event successful again, we want to enlist players' help in planning, setting up, and running the event. For most of the roles listed, players in these roles may also compete in the tournament. Specific positions needed include the following:
- The marketing director will be responsible for advertising the event to local area Ultimate teams and associations, primarily CMUA and WAFC, and to the UMBC community. The marketing manager may use Facebook, email, Twitter, printed advertisements, and other channels to spread the word about the event. All work will be done prior to the event.
- The information and merchandise desk will be manned during the event by 1-2 desk attendants. Persons in this role will not be able to play in the tournament.
- In the morning of the event, a set-up team of 2-3 people will prepare the courts for tournament play. Persons in this role will be able to play in the tournament.
During the tournament, scorekeepers will be needed during each round of play to keep count of the rapid scoring in indoor ultimate. Since at least two teams will have a bye during each round, persons in the scorekeeper role will be able to play in the tournament if they keep score during their team's byes. All UMBC Ultimate players may be asked to perform this role.
This event is a major fundraising event for Booya and will satisfy the membership requirement for players to contribute to one major and one minor fundraising event per semester.
If you would like to help out in any of the roles above, comment below or contact PJ (phemler1@umbc.edu) or Dan (ddress1@umbc.edu). The following roles still need filling: desk attendants, set-up team, and scorekeepers.
You are, of course, highly encouraged to participate in the event as a regular participant. Information for how to register will be out shortly.
