Recruiting students to attend MICA's CCAN Cove Point event!
Stop the LNG Terminal at Cove Point!
Hey SEA!!
Next TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12TH AT 7:30 PM, the Maryland Crossroads 2013 tour to raise awareness about Cove Point's proposed Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal will pass through Baltimore at MICA in downtown Baltimore!! UMBC will be attending!
Transportation WILL be provided to MICA from UMBC!
This is super important! As a lot of you already know, Dominion Resources, a Virginia based company, is proposing a Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal in Southern Maryland at Cove Point. Their goal is to take fracked gas from Pennsylvania, pipe it through Maryland, and liquefy at this Cove Point plant. This liquefied natural gas would then be shipped off Asia. The plant would create no new jobs for Maryland employees, but would create more greenhouse gas pollutants than any other single source of climate pollution in Maryland, as well as devastate our beautiful Chesapeake Bay. This would also mean that fracking will be much more likely (and almost definitely occur) through Maryland.
What are we going to do?
-Attend the Crossroads event at MICA on November 12th!
-Recruit other students to attend the Crossroads event!
-Sign the petition against the Cove Point LNG terminal
If you are able to make an announcement in any of your classes about this event and/or able to pass around the petitions, please let me know. I can give you petitions for people to sign and a script of what to say to help people understand why preventing the LNG is very important and what people can do to help. Please strongly consider making an announcement to your class about this event and the campaign!
What you would need to do:
-Make sure your professor is OK with you making an announcement at the start of class.
-Use the script to inform people of the LNG
-Pass around the petitions and collect them at the end of class.
