On myUMBC and Moderation...
Anybody read anything interesting lately?

I thought I’d chime in with some quick thoughts on some of the topics currently being discussed in myUMBC:
- As a community, the open and honest exchange of ideas is important to us. Even if we disagree with the language or tactics.
- We will only take action on a post if it is illegal or in violation of university policies. We work with the university’s legal department to make these determinations.
- If you see something you want us to take a look at, use the Send Us Feedback button at the bottom of the page.
- We’ve talked about an up/down/report voting system, but have been waiting to see if the need existed and how it would need to work. We have no immediate plans though, but we’re paying attention to the ongoing discussions.
- News vs. Discussions - we acknowledge that sometimes it isn’t clear where to post things. My current thinking is: If you have a “story” that the community might be interested in, post it in News. If you have a question, thought or are unsure, post it in Discussions.
If you have any ideas or suggestions, feel free to email me or stop by my office (Engineering Building, Room 125J) for a chat, or leave a comment below.
