The week after Spring Break (March 26-29) is Career Week at UMBC!
I recommend that you each check out at least one of the lunchtime Career Conversations on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday - "Cashing in on Internships," "Securing a Professional Engineering License," and "Getting into Graduate School" are just a few of the offerings.
The Spring Career Fair is on Thursday (3/29). There will be employers looking to fill internships as well as permanent positions (especially for CoE&IT majors), so if you're STILL trying to nail down an internship for the summer, check it out! Be sure to dress professionally, and bring copies of your resumé!
One event that I recommend for all students is the Business and Dining Etiquette Dinner. It is critical for you all to have the ability to make a good impression in ANY setting, particularly when you are first building your reputation in the professional world. Having had the opportunity to dine with all sorts of speakers and invited guests when I was an undergraduate (remember my lunch with Jane Goodall?), I know that being comfortable with all the rules of politeness that are expected in a formal setting gives you one less thing to worry about when you are trying to look smart and accomplished in front of someone you have long admired (or, someone who could give you a job). These dinners are offered at times other than Career Week, so please take the time to participate in one at some point during your UMBC career!
