Honors College Junior Michael Moubarek has won a prestigious Goldwater Scholarship. This scholarship, named after Barry Goldwater and established by Congress in 1986, is the premier national scholarship for undergraduates in science, engineering, and mathematics. Intensely competitive, Goldwaters are awarded to fewer than 300 students each year, and a maximum of four winners are allowed from each university. This year, UMBC has had two winners for the first time. Honors College Director, Dr. Simon Stacey, also chairs UMBC's Goldwater Selection Committee, and is featured in the photo with Michael and fellow Goldwater recipient Akua Nimarko '15.
