RELEVANT ADDENDUM:
(1) The "beer guide" is symbolic, not literal (well, for some ppl anyway!) as tolerance varies by person.
(2) When both parties are equally drunk or wasted, the situation gets more complicated! As always, contextual factors are important. Namely: was one person passive while the other was active? This situation suggests rape. Or were they both equally active? This situation suggests it was not rape. What was the standing relationship of the 2 people like? Were there any indicators of nonconsent/consent given before they got that drunk? (i.e. if the individual actively DID NOT want to sleep with that person, but ended up in bed with them anyway). All of these pieces are minimal considerations when thinking about mutually wasted sex & rape.
(3) Nature of the video: This video is NOT an overview of rape! It is here for use as a basic outline for consent when mixing sex w/ alcohol. OF COURSE you are to use your best judgment in your situation! There are thousands of situational variations, and these are tips & concepts to help aid your judgment.
VIDEO SUMMARY:
When I was younger, I found myself in situations with sex and alcohol a lot faster than I thought I would. In this video I talk about the relationship between sex and alcohol. First I describe the 3 rough stages of drinking: tipsy, drunk, and wasted. These descriptions are meant to help you identify how drunk someone is (or to know how drunk YOU might be). Following this information, I give some tips to help people planning to have sex at parties to do it safely. I explain when consent can and cannot be given, how to ask for it, and how to say no if you don't want to. I advocate for consensual behavior & safer sex in party settings. I close with some "disaster prevention tips" to ensure everyone has a safe, enjoyable time while out partying (responsibly)!
