The position of Student Network Technician is an entry level position within the DoIT Physical Networks group. This position is designed to be a comprehensive training position in network engineering. As a training position, no network engineering experience is required. The basic duties of a Student Network Technician are as follows:
- Making, managing, and repairing network cabling.
- Activating and troubleshooting data connections.
- Installing data communications equipment.
Once a Student Network Technician demonstrates that they have mastered basic network engineering skills, they are given the opportunity to branch out and gain experience in additional skill areas. Some of the skill areas available are:
- Server Administration
- Systems and Web Programming
- Cisco Router and Switch Configuration
Looking for mainly freshman and sophomore students. We don't require any networking knowledge, just a good attitude, a willingness to work hard and learn.
This position is a serious commitment that requires candidates be available 20 hours per week during the Spring and Fall semesters. Candidates should also be able to work 40 hours per week during the Winter and Summer semesters. We prefer that candidates be able to work at least 2 hours per day (Monday - Friday between 9am and 5pm). We realize that your schedule for this fall is already set and time requirements until the end of the semester will be waived.
