A message from Katie Glasser, CWIT Assistant Director:
Thank you to all the student volunteers during Bits & Bytes for giving so freely of your time on Sunday & Monday, February 19 & 20! When all the participants left on Monday, I kept hearing so many comments about the great time they had and how much they learned from meeting other high school girls and UMBC students. The event was a success! Even in a short interaction with them, you all helped put a face on UMBC and showed the girls that engineering and IT students are just like them! Well done!
I would especially like to thank the Bits & Bytes Planning Committee, for the long hours and hard work they put into ensuring this event would run smoothly. Bits & Bytes would not be possible without a strong, dedicated group of students on the planning committee, and without a enthusiastic group of volunteers. Thank you to Michael Barrett, Tiffany Ernst, Leah Mason, Angela Norton, Juliette Sardin, and Emily Scheerer for giving me the pleasure of working with you as a team to plan this event. It is never easy to plan event like this, but SO worth it in the end to see the impact you had on these high school girls. You all are AWESOME!
To all the members of the CWIT Living Learning Community (and a few in Harbor Hall as well): Thank you for hosting the girls in your rooms on Sunday night and helping them feel welcomed when they arrived on the floor for dinner and games. You all went above and beyond!
I would like to compile a photo album for this year's Bits & Bytes event, so if you took any pictures at all during the event, please email them to me or bring them to the office on a flash drive (or your camera SIM card) so I can piece them all together to send out to the participants.
I welcome all feedback to help continue to improve the event in the future. If you have any feedback about the event, please email kglasser@umbc.edu.
Thanks again! You all should be very proud of the great work you accomplished as a community!
