January through March of this year will require that UMBC conduct significant testing on the PeopleSoft system. There are two major initiatives which are PeopleTools 8.5 upgrade and bundles installation. For clarification these two initiatives will be described. The PeopleTools 8.5 upgrade involves applying an upgrade that will alter the interface of PeopleSoft. One noticeable difference will be the look and behaviors of the left menu navigation in PeopleSoft changing. If you are interested, one source found on the web listed some of the changes: http://www.miproconsulting.com/blog/2009/05/pt85/ .
Oracle refers to updates released for PeopleSoft as “bundles”. The bundles installation involves applying these updates to the PeopleSoft system. First testing has to be done in order to ensure that PeopleSoft still operates as designed even after the bundles have been applied. CPS has been involved in testing for bundle releases in the past as detailed in this link: https://spaces.umbc.edu/x/QSXg .
Exact dates have not been provided for these initiatives, but here is a synopsis of planned scheduling for events between January and March of 2011 (For clarity we will refer to the number preceding the events below as the "event number"):
1. Now until approximately some time in early February test People Tools 8.5 in http://csdb6-web.ps.umbc.edu (CSDB6).
2. Some time in early February until the end of February perform testing in http://csdb2-web.ps.umbc.edu (CSDB2) on the Bundles 20 release for PeopleSoft. (Bundle 20 will be released by Oracle on 1/28/2011. Go-live to install this bundle in the production PeopleSoft system is slated for last weekend in February pending a successful testing report from the Campus).
3. Late February, early March go back and retest PeopleTools 8.5 in CSDB6 since the new Bundles 20 release that were just applied to the PeopleSoft production environment will be applied to the CSDB6 testing environment (If PeopleTools 8.5 testing is successful then PeopleTools 8.5 will be applied to the production PeopleSoft environment some time in March.).
As in the past CPS IT is soliciting volunteers to take part in the testing efforts which include the Recruitment, Admissions and Student Records modules. Here is the location for the testing guides that can be used for testing: https://spaces.umbc.edu/x/eYde . So if you are interested in being a tester, please send an email to cpshelp@umbc.edu including the event number(s) from above you would like to participate in as well as the module(s) that you would like to test (i.e. Event Number: 1, Admissions module). Here is a list of possible PeopleSoft testers from CPS https://spaces.umbc.edu/x/Iwzg .
We cannot stress enough how important it is for CPS to be a part of the Campus' testing initiative for PeopleSoft or any other enterprise application used at UMBC for that matter. As always if there are any questions please do not hesitate to contact the CPS Help Desk.
Thank You,
CPS IT
