The Joseph Beuys Sculpture Park was established in 2000 and inspired by the 7000 Oaks project by influential artist Joseph Beuys, who advocated for greater need of environmental awareness around the world.
In the fall of 2000, over than 500 volunteers planted more than 350 trees and placed stones to create social sculptures in several Baltimore locations, including Patterson Park, Carroll Park, and Wyman Park Dell, as well as UMBC's Joseph Beuys Sculpture Park.
Our park hosts 30 trees and granite stones, as well as a number of benches. Beuys Park is an outdoor treasure and centerpiece of campus where UMBC groups and individuals gather for classes, yoga, meditation, and other activities throughout the year. We welcome all users to post their events in this group!
Each bench in Beuys Park contains a blank journal, and visitors are encouraged to make entries. When journals are filled, the CADVC archives and digitizes the contents, replacing the filled journal with a new one.
Joseph Beuys Sculpture Park is located on the south side of campus between the RAC and Hilltop Circle. The park is supported in part by NatureSacred and the Center for Art, Design, and Visual Culture.
