Is there hope for UMBC weekends? Does anyone care?
After a year-full of weekends at UMBC, even I lose hope.

UMBC has a huge problem. It's one reason so many people have negative attitudes toward UMBC.
There are essential needs for students that are being ignored on weekends:
- A bookstore that is open
- More dining options
- A consistent dining hall
There is no reason not to have a bookstore open from 10am - 2pm (minimal hours) on both Saturday and Sunday.
My feelings toward UMBC as a whole, and my college experience would be two times better if we could have a bookstore or resource open during the weekends.
I don't feel like elaborating excessively, but many other issues with weekends at UMBC are:
- Combined breakfast-Lunch eliminates 1 meal for each day
- Library closes early
- Expensive laundry
Many would say the only problem with weekends and resources being provided on weekends is that there are not enough students around to make this worth while. However, I believe the reason we have less people on campus on weekends is a result of a lack of resources during weekends.
Investing in more weekend-available resources would in time prove to increase activity on campus. This post is focused on weekends, so if you want to comment (and please do) keep it focused on the weekends.
Student On/Off Campus
36% on-campus (residential) students
64% off-campus (commuting) students
On-campus students
72% on-campus students with car
28% on-campus students without a car
For commuters who want better parking spots, 25% of student parking is occupied by on-campus students, which are mostly just used on weekends (since they live on campus).
So more resources close by -> Less people need a car on campus -> more commuter parking spaces
