The Poem Known as College
A satirical poem about UMBC and college life in general
We're studying poetry in AP English, and we have to do presentations where we teach the class a type of poem. Last Friday, a classmate did a presentation on Shakespeare's "My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun" and assigned us to write similar satirical poems on any subject.
After a minute of brainstorming, I knew exactly what I was going to write about: postsecondary education. And I ended up using UMBC as my inspiration. I only had three minutes to write this and turn it in, therefore it's not the best title in the world:
The Poem Known as College
People say our college is not a real college -
all because we're nerds with no life?
On the weekends we may drink, party, and binge.
On the weekdays, academia gets us high.
It's true, we have no college TOWN,
But we're next door to a CITY, so why frown?
So we may not be a sexy party school,
But who cares? We DEFINE cool.
