Transgender Person Killed in NYC
Apparently with Prejudice

There are much news brought to light about transgender people. Manning came out as a transgender woman, but let's not get into a discussion about the acts Manning has done while in the military. I have read articles that stated that Manning had trouble with gender-identity and decided to join the military to dispel the problem... a lot of stress ensued and now we had the court case. This will not be a discussion about leaked documents or treachery, for I seek to discuss transgender.
I have linked an article relating to transgender. This weekend, transgender woman in NYC beaten by a man who shouted homophobic slurs and insults at hear. She died of her injuries on Thursday.
The article stated that she and her friends, who were also transgender women, were out on Saturday when they encountered a group of men. Then, when the group of men realized that she and her friends were transgender, they threw punches and yelled slurs. And so ended the life of this woman. The attacker, a 20 year old man, was arrested.
Now, what does the myUMBC community think about transgender individuals? What about the prejudices behind the death of the individual from the article I referenced? I do know at least one transgender indivudal on the myUMBC forums, and I believe I have met at least one other on campus.
