Iowa State Fair's Butter Cow Defaced with Red Paint
[Animal Rights] Activists Threw Red Paint on Butter Cow
posted over 11 years ago
It appears as though Animal Rights activists have brought attention from the media. What antics did they do this time? Why, vandalize a butter cow statue with red paint, with "FREEDOM FOR ALL" on the glass. Now imagine if that butter cow was mine. I would not be happy to find my statue covered in red paint, no matter how easy it is to clean it. I think this was a bad decision by whoever did this act - this is killing their own message of "freedom for all." They claimed to have done this act in protest of acts against animal kind. Although I am not pleased by factory farms (albeit not for the same reasons these activists brought up), I do not condone these actions.
On the other hand, I have read comments within the article I linked below. There were some hate-filled comment on vegans and animal welfare people, who are misblamed - the people involved in this act of vandalism do not represent vegans (and moral vegetarians for that matter) and animal welfare and animal rights people as a whole. Of course there is much backlash against vegans as a whole, including remarks against their diets (never mind that vegans can get vitamin B12 naturally from fungi, and that there are plenty of foods not derived from animal products that can constitute a healthy diet) - when their diets have little to do with the act of vandalism at hand or the message the vandals tried to convey.
