I would like to rant for a second.... don't mind me =)
I don't understand the way the government attempts to utilize the EFC (Expected Family Contribution) indicator of a student's FAFSA. They sit there and tell you what they think you should be able to pay out of pocket based on your parents' income....Excuse ME, but I don't have $16,000 in my back pocket ready to spend at a moment's notice and neither do my parents! Or that these parents have OTHER children whose futures they also must support. They don't take into account that a lot of people don't have thousands of dollars lying around. What about students whose parents refuse to lend them a dime for college? It really frustrates me that they think that because your family makes over a certain amount, you are not eligible for grants and you have to pay for most of your education on your own. Whether you know it or not, colleges use your EFC to determine how much they will offer you in financial aid. Cost of attendance- EFC= possible financial aid. Oh, and don't even THINK about letting your EFC EXCEED the amount of your cost of attendance, because if that's the case, YOU'RE NOT GETTING SQUAT!!!!!! I just think it is somewhat unfair, if you haven't been able to tell as of yet...
