Republican says "I will pay you to homeschool your kids."
....but is it principle, or just an attempt to buy votes.

E.W. Jackson, Baptist Minister, is running for Lt. Governor in Virginia.
He has said some fairly outrageous things. His latest quote indicates that he wants to amend the Constitution of Virginia to require that parents who homeschool receive the same amount of money as the state pays for an individual to go to public school.
But this creates a perverse incentive, even people who have no interest in teaching their kids, per se, could, under Jackson's vision, get PAID to keep their kids home. The amount of money that a public school student costs is significant. In Fairfax County, VA, it's about $14,000 per child.
A family with, say, four children would, under Jackson's plan receive about $50,000 from the state, with no clear accountability for the funds.
This would, absent a change, need to come from the school's budget, or the general fund.
What's next? Public financing of private colleges?
