Has anyone used the Post 911 GI Bill prior to this semester?
This is my first semester at UMBC and my first semester using the Post 911 GI Bill. Prior to this I went to AACC and used the regular old Chapter 30 GI Bill. Trying to get answer's from the VA is like trying to get blood from a stone so I figured I'd see if any of you guys could help me out. I received my book stipend way back in the beginning of August which was cool. My questions are:
1. Does anyone know how long it takes before the VA pays my tuition for this semester? I keep checking my online bill and it hasn't been paid yet.
2. Does anyone know if we get paid exactly on October 1st via direct deposit or if they just begin processing your monthly BAH then? With the Chapter 30 Bill you had to verify enrollment each month and you'd get paid about a week later. There is no monthly verification for the Chapter 33 Bill so I'm hoping it's deposited more quickly. A dude has to pay his rent after all!
3. When I call the VA they just tell me that my claim shows as "being processed". Is that normal?
4. Finally, since I'm going full time this semester and will be going again in the Spring will I get paid BAH for January or will I just be out $1,900 for that month?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!

hey jason,
First, you need to go by the registrar office to fill out a form to get processed by the VA. the VA will not pay you until you fill out that form. bring your eligibility form with you. it usually takes the VA about 6 weeks to pay. If you get a late fee on your account just go to the finance office and they will take it off. it is really random when you get paid and how much you get paid. you get paid book allowance too. I usually get paid about $1950/month but again its the VA! I am using my post 911 GI bill since Fall of last year.
