Guerrilla Gardening at Dupont Circle Metro Station
posted over 11 years ago
The transit system regularly pleads poverty, yet employees devoted supposedly valuable time to remove more than 1,000 morning glories, cardinal flowers and cypress vines that Docter donated to the city — albeit without permission. The plants would have bloomed from August to October in a patriotic display of red, white and blue. Instead of greenery today and colors to come, the 176 flower boxes along the top stretch of the escalators at the station’s north entrance now feature dirt, a few straggling stems and the occasional discarded soda can.
“It never occurred to me that Metro would think it was more efficient to rip out the plants than to let someone water them,” Docter said. Metro tore out the foliage without waiting to solicit the neighborhood’s opinion, as it said it had planned to do.

It seems Docter was threatened to be caged if he dared to water the plants. Metro claims the plants were wilting, as one of their various reasons, that they cannot decide on for removing the plants. Apparently, they weren't getting enough water, even though they were getting more than enough. It is not surprising why they cannot come up with a clear answer for why these plants were removed.
How dare someone plant flowers without the state's permission. That's such an evil deed and one needs to be caged for that. They need to be caged for putting something into the dirt to grow. It's despicable for one to try to make an area look nice. Especially when the flowers bloom as red, white, and blue. Dirt looks so much nicer. Land of the Free Submit now.
