"Climbing is not a battle with the elements, nor against the law of gravity. It's a battle against oneself." - Walter Bonatti
I am looking for more people to climb with. Several of the people I have been climbing with are leaving the area. I have a fairly open schedule now for climbing. When the fall semester starts I would be able to do Tuesdays or Thursdays in the afternoon or any weekday evening.
I am a moderately experienced climber. I am certainly not a pro or an expert. I climb most 10s at the local gym and an occasional 11a. I do have rope and know how to set a top rope anchor. I have been in and out of climbing for several years. I most recently started back up in January. I like to climb indoors 2 or 3 times a week then outdoors any time I get a chance. I don't really care what grade I climb at. A higher grade ability just means more terrain is open to me. I enjoy the movement of it, the environment, and the community. I have been doing a little sport leading. I aspire to lead trad eventually.
The local gym Earth Treks Columbia is about 15 minutes from campus.

I am already in the area so if you want to rope up, go ahead and send an email any time to jmcpeak1@umbc.edu. I have been hooking up with the MeetUp Baltimore climbing group on Thursdays. I have also been going outside recently with a couple of friends. We did Seneca on 2 recent weekends. We are talking about weekend trips to the NRG and Gunks. I am sure even if we don't travel that far we will often be out at local places on weekends.
I don't mind helping out if someone is new or interested. But you must be willing to take responsibility for your own gear, training, and safety. I can teach belay or you can take an intro to climbing class at ET. Typical intro climbing gear will cost about $250 (shoes, harness, belay device, chalk). Gym costs are $70 a month if you do a contract or $90 one month at a time.
