Foreign Language Requirement

Hi,
I am an undergrad student who is tired of being REQUIRED to take foreign language classes.
1. The vast majority of adults I know say that they have never used the foreign language they were required to take in school.
2. Most students I hear taking these classes are complaining about them bringing down their overall GPA.
3. Many of the professors (I have heard about) seem non-enthusiastic about teaching these courses.
To be fair, I think that studying foreign languages is valuable, and it is certainly beneficial to learn another language. There is something very special about learning another culture. However, requiring students to take these classes makes many bitter towards the idea of learning a new language.
I welcome discussion. I am posting this because I am curious what the community thinks about this issue. It has been and still is a debated topic in education.
