Earlier this semester Towson University announced that it was cutting the baseball and men's soccer programs from the athletics department due to budgetary constraints. Students, faculty and parents were upset, not to mention, the President of the Atlanta Braves, John B. Schuerholz, whose name is on the Towson baseball stadium in honor of a generous donation. 

The baseball team has been wearing black tape over the Towson logo on their uniform as they finish out the rest of their season. Who can blame them? Certainly not I. The athletic scholarships for students in the baseball and men's soccer programs would be honored, but most students have applied for transfers because they have professional sports dreams.

I kept thinking that this was a shame and that the Towson Budget Board is full of inept jerks who didn't really want to save the sports.

ANYWAY.

As of yesterday, it was announced that the state government would be allocating $300,000 to Towson University in the 2014 budget to save the baseball program. The hope is that with this help the Towson baseball program will be able to raise enough funds on its own and become self-sufficient by Fall 2015. Of course, this decision to allocate money to the university needs to be approved by the legislature, but Gov. O'Malley's proposal seems to be receiving strong support. 

So here are the questions I raise:
- Is this government bail out fair?
- What about men's soccer?
- What about other state universities?
- What else was this money going to be used for?
