UMBCs Shadiest Graduation Pitfall
The notice given in passing could cost you
posted over 11 years ago
After 4 years of dedication to higher learning and excellence, in the final stretch of my senior year, UMBC has cheated me. Probably many others too.
Auditing my degree with my advisor at the end of the Fall semester, I was set. I had signed up for courses during winter and spring semesters such that all the requirements were met on the degree audit page. Life was so good until I found out that the course I repeated in the winter caused an annoying thing to happen. The software double counted enrolled course repeat credits and the credits from the first attempt.
Suddenly I found a 4 credit hole in my degree, the last day to register for a class in the spring, with a financial hold on my account from the winter semester. There was nothing I could do. After 4 years of my hard work and dedication, I feel cheated into stretching my enrollment and giving even more money I do not have to make up for a short coming in the system and for not seeing a small, unbolded, really important message that becomes invisible after years of compulsive degree auditing.
Here is the notice as it should have looked on the page:
NOTICE: The software will double count enrolled course repeat credits as well as the credits for the first attempt.
