AFRICANS VS AFRICAN AMERICANS - A REALITY ON BLACKNESS
CONDITIONAL LOVE ONLY
posted almost 14 years ago
As an African immigrant in the US, I've witnessed a lot of friction between my fellow Africans and African American. Usually the case is that Africans feel that their African American brothers and sisters look down on them or see them as a joke, and on the other hand, African Americans feel that Africans are highly favored in the great USA. The tensions between these groups are usually fueled by nothing other than a lack of communication and sometimes just pure arrogance.
The reason why most African immigrants feel looked down upon is mainly because most of the Africans in the US are/were well off back in Africa, or their parents are well educated and well off financially. In other words, most African immigrants are Africa's middle to upper class (not all but "most"), and of course they expect to be treated like that everywhere (the king's son is a slave in another king's land). Not saying there is anything wrong with expecting to be treated well, but sometimes we just need to be humble and educate people about where we come from. (I've always done this to my AA friends when they asked me if i lived in a tree...and for those who would like to know if we live in trees - yes, in some parts of Africa, people still live in the jungles, as nomads or hunter gatherers...but most Africans in the US were more likely to be well off-
As for AAs, I wouldn't know what the real motive for the tension is. Sometimes i just call it "A Black Thang)". Could it be true that Black people just can't get along???? Can us as blacks stop blaming each other/the next man and stop bitching? How can you love the next person when you don't even (got) have love for your own?
Anywhere - Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds - (the man my mom should have slept with - Bob Marley)
With Love,
Lovemore
