UMBC Becomes Smoke-Free on July 1, 2013! Need Input!
Please Stay on Topic!!! Your Input is Important!!!
If UMBC President Dr. Freeman Hrabowski allows an exception, where would be the best location on campus to place a new designated smoking area for resident students (assuming all of the current designated smoking areas are removed)?
Also, there are three student smoking policy forums scheduled on the dates mentioned below. Please come to find out more about this new policy and to ask questions and express concerns. Your feedback is important! There will be members of the Smoke-Free Campus Task Force Present at the forums.
-Monday February 11th at 7 pm in the Harbor Multipurpose Room.
-Tuesday February 12th at 12 pm in the Student Orgs Space (located on the second floor of the Commons).
-Wednesday February 13th at 12 pm in the Student Orgs Space.
By the way, my name is Jason Sumpter and I am an SGA senator and a student representative on the Smoke-Free Campus Task Force that is putting together the details of the new policy. Besides posting here and attending the forums you can also email me if you have any questions. The University System of Maryland Board of Regents has adopted a policy requiring all USM institutions, including UMBC, to provide a healthy, smoke-free environment for all faculty, staff, students, contractors, and visitors by July 1, 2013. This means that smoking will be prohibited everywhere on campus, except for the possibility of a very limited amount of designated smoking areas that would have to be approved by Dr. Freeman Hrabowski. You can comment here or you may also send suggestions to smokefree@umbc.edu.
