A Call for Moderation
For a more orderly debate
posted almost 14 years ago
To all those who "lurk" the forums:
I have noticed that UMBC's attempt to promote diversity is often thwarted by certain zealous bloggers. Although I am sure they would say that they are simply "asking a question" or "gaining knowledge", it is clear from the way the question is worded they are either "doing it for the lulz" or really trying to draw lines in the sand. This is a total counter-culture to the diversity of UMBC. I will have none of it.
I actually came to this school because of the brilliance of the students and the promotion of diversity. While there are some truly brilliant people on this campus, there are also some "herp derps" shallowing the gene pool.
The Solution: Moderators!
Pros: We have ordered debates where people can actually earn from each other.
Cons: it might limit free speech in the way of PC-police, if not done properly.
However, I am in favor of a vetting process for the moderators that will allow us to limit bias. If those moderators let you know where your comment has failed, maybe it will increase your debate skills.
Let's get rid of the cancer that is ruining these boards!
Whose with me? Please comment and make suggestions!
