Visual Arts Majors - I have a question

Can I get away with not having a Macbook Pro?

Hi all,

I'm an incoming Visual Arts major, and I was wondering how strict professors are on having a Macbook Pro. I'm not in the greatest financial situation, but I do have a laptop that runs as well as a Macbook Pro. I'd hate to sell it just to have to buy something similar.
