Nastygrams from Paula Broadwell, ex-D/CIA Petraeus paramour, were traced from Google metadata that is available to law enforcement without a warrant.
Law enforcement organizations do not require probable cause to go fishing through your last 6 months of email when they are held on a third party service, e.g., gmail.com.
Suddenly, Senator Leahy is getting traction in adding privacy provisions to a video privacy act; his contention is that all email searches should require a warrant.
