Alternative Spring Break?
What is this I don't even

I was looking at the application because I was thinking: "Hmm, this might be volunteer work for reputable charities or something like that! It'd be nice to use my spare time to actually help people!"
Then I look at the application, which has such opportunities as:
- Being Homeless for 3 days!
- The Refugee Experience!
Why do you have to pay to do this volunteer work?
Why should I have to pay $75 to be homeless when I can do it for free?
Is it just so I can get that warm and fuzzy fake solidarity from "experiencing" the lives of the less fortunate? To pad my resume? I still don't get it.
Some of this stuff is actually worthwhile, but I personally don't feel like paying $350 to learn about Dr. Patch Adams's holistic medicine approaches when I can just google it and learn about it for free.
