Romney (re)defines middle class
Don't feel bad if you're not upper class
So when he talks about the middle class, at least you know who he's really talking about. Who's the genius businessman?
Correctly quoted Romney line on middle-income still inaccurate
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was widely misquoted in an ABC News interview Friday. Romney did not define middle income as between $200,000 and $250,000, as some outlets reported, but said: “middle income is $200,000 to $250,000 and less.” See full transcript.
Except, that’s wrong too. The Census Bureau this week released its data on median income, and MarketWatch’s Week in Charts breaks down the figures. In 2011, only 4% of Americans made more than $200,000, rendering Romney’s definition of middle-class absurdly large, taking in over 96% of households.
The median income is just over $50,000, and over three-quarters of households earn between $25,000 and $100,000.
