USDemocrazy has seriously dropped the ball on Journalism
myUMBC > USDemocrazy on news and commentary? I'm scared
Ok, so maybe you noticed [or haven't] that USDemocrazy, the "news" that tries to "make sense of Democracy" hasn't posted news in a week. Was it a slow news week?
Well let's see:
-The US Ambassador to Libya was assassinated, along with 3 other State department officials.
-Protests alledged over an anti-Islamic video have erupted at multiple US Embassies and Consulates in various countries.
-Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, urges the U.S. to act on his concerns over the Iranian's Nuclear Program.
Why has the news gone silent? Doesn't make much "sense" to me?
Either they are developing a monumental journalism piece, or they just said screw it. Or both. I don't know. Don't really care.
What I do care about is that although we talk about how myUMBC sucks in content and full of trolls, it does provide perspective and sometimes insight. On any given message board, we see people fact-checking and providing scope and depth to various topics. Maybe we need to pick up where they left off. Actually, let's go in a different direction.
Is there group doing Journalism on this campus now? If so, your social media presence is lacking.
I'm not a great writer, but we have great writers on myUMBC, some I agree with tremendously. Others, well...let's just say they make me laugh. We also have great fact-checkers.
I want to see if we can get these folks together to actually make a news piece with research and journalism. Don't just spout Obama or Romney talking points.
If you think Nancy Pelosi hates America, tell me how it felt to get held back 3 times in 1st Grade?
If you think Bush destroyed America, tell me how you changed America by doing bong hits in your mom's basement?
TL;DR Let's just discuss how we can improve news reporting here.
