Nonpartisan Thread
For people who hate partisan rhetoric
Why do you hate the political mudslinging contest?
What about it irks you the most? If you love joining in the partisan fear-mongerering and exhaltation, by all means, there are plenty of threads for you to go to on MyUMBC... But if you don't, this thread is for you!
Seems you can't escape the negative campaigning these days. Even if you turn off every political television ad you see and look away from the ones that pop up on websites, you still can't escape people acting as little echo chambers, repeating what they've heard and read. Imagine how much free advertising the candidates get from all these people! Way more than they could ever afford to buy.
And these people... partisan echo-chambers that they are, are so caught up in their little "mini campaigns" that they seem totally unaware of all the conflict, division, anger, fear, and deceit that they are promulgating...
So all you independents, nonpartisans, unaffiliateds, nonvoters (both detached and lazy)... what are the top reasons for your general dislike for the political season?
1) False Dichotomy/ No Good Alternatives (The fact there really is no difference, but we're expected to believe there is).
2) Conflict/Division (The fact it gives people yet another reason to fight... as if we don't already have enough)
3) Misplaced Admiration (The fact it compels people to dedicate themselves to defending a complete stranger's reputatation)
4) Wasted Time/Too much work (Don't we have something better to do?)
5) Negative Ads (They're everywhere, everywhere!!! Make them go away!)
6) Red Herrings (The fact the debate distracts from the real issues)
7) Corruption (The fact that this is the time of year when most special interests buy the favor of politicians)
Pick your top three! If you've got some other ideas, let them be known!
