How important is the textbook in CMPE 310 with Dr. Yan?

Rent or ebook?

This is the textbook required for CMPE 310, which I am taking in the fall: http://goo.gl/YExCK

While I like going the ebook route, renting a physical copy is a lot cheaper in this case. I know sometimes a book that they say is "required" is barely used at all, so can anyone who has taken this course with Dr. Yan tell me how much I will be relying on it throughout the semester?
