y is it so difficult to graduate?!
ur love hate relationship with UMBC
UMBC is known as an at least four year under grad institution. Though we can argue that this may be do to students' own incompetence, I think we can all agree that UMBC usually assigns us to unprepared advisors and changes graduation requirements for departments constantly. Yet after four years, I have adapted to the swampy and sometimes bureaucratic conditions presented to the average student.
Yet on my odyssey towards graduation, I have finally sought refuge in the community discussions on myUMBC. Yes, I am ranting, yes I am upset, and yes, I have run out of patience. WHY CAN NO ONE TELL ME WHEN I CAN REGISTER FOR DECEMBER GRADUATION! I have friends who already have, and the Registrar's office says I cant yet. Yet they have no idea when I can submit any paperwork. I decided to call in 15 minutes later.....spoke with the same student who admitted she did not have any knowledge of the information I was asking for. I was transferred to a mailbox of staff who I now have to play phone tag with.
By any means, I am not upset with any of our fellow UMBC students working at the registrar's office. I am upset at the lack of information and continuity provided through administration in this school.
- You stay an extra semester to take required classes...and then find out that they wont be offered
- You switch advisors and they tell you completely different information
- You are fined for things u never did
- You are sent from one office to the next bc no one really knows how to solve your problem
I AM PROUD OF UMBC. I am happy with my decision to attend this school....but it would make things so much better if they could answer my questions with the right answers and make me be totally proud to be a retriever.
