College is a place where brilliant minds can think and explore

Where becoming something important is what we all yearn for

The people we meet here impact our lives for ever

Challenging us beyond our wildest dreams.. never letting us say never

The hurdles we jump, we jump together

The battles we fight are not always in sunny weather

We are a part of a journey through this strange place

Creating memories that we can never erase

Passersby leaving our mark at UMBC

But more importantly staying in tune with our destiny

Focusing on our dreams, we find a common goal

Where minds alike can wander, no cages, no control

Daring to be different in everything that we do

There is no time to wish you were able to get a re-do

For some of us we got here expecting to not fit in

Expecting college to be a nightmare, like high school’s identical twin

Others were social butterflies and immediately branched out

Taking advantage of everything, wanting to know what college was all about

And the last group of people are still looking to find their place

Haven’t quite made it to home, but are flirting between second and third base

All three groups make this school great

Each one needing the other to survive, social soul mates

College isn’t just about books and papers, although those are cool too

Can’t think of any? Don’t worry I’ve thought of a few..

It’s about staying up so late you can’t function the next day

It’s about spending the night in the library writing a 30page essay

It’s about all the clubs you sign up for but don’t go to in the beginning of the year

It’s about needing extra money and becoming a bookstore cashier

It’s about laughing so hard with your friends you start to cry

It’s about starting a conversation with someone new and not being shy

It’s about arguing with your teacher about why you failed that test

It’s about being in a class full of geniuses and for the first time being second best

It’s about your flex running out and you can no longer get anything at late night

It’s about performing on stage in the UC and having stage fright

It’s about the squirrels taking your food at Chick-Fil-A

It’s about playing games on Erickson field on a good day

It’s about trying to play in the RAC but all the courts are full

It’s about homecoming and riding the mechanical bull

It’s about meeting Arbutians and wondering where these people came from

It’s about the school not allowing any of the stores to sell gum

It’s about the undefeated football team we all love and support

It’s about the power going out and creating mini forts

It’s about embracing who you are and achieving the unachievable

It’s about conceiving a dream and becoming the unbelievable.
