A respectful discussion on evolution and creation
A thread on this topic to end all threads

The reason behind this is simply to take all the disputes that seem to randomly come up on other myUMBC threads and concentrate them in one spot.
While anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion, there are some ground rules that I'd like to set here (aside from the usual no trolling, flamebaiting or ad hominem attacks):
1) Cite reliable sources (Wikipedia does not count). A good rule of thumb is ff you wouldn't turn it in for a paper in class then it may not be a good idea to use them here.
2) If Scripture verses are quoted, a source for where you are getting the interpretations should be provided (like from such and such group, individual, or church). If some of it comes from your own personal interpretation it is ok to state that as well (as long as it IS stated and not passed off as 100% objective).
3) When challenging someone else's sources, give evidence for why it should be considered unreliable. I guess the idea here is to get beyond the "this is from a (insert group here) perspective and therefore automatically invalid" thing.
4) It's fine if this gets heated but don't be a jerk.
5) If someone else is acting up, try not to say anything to make it worse. If someone is being completely intolerable just bury their comments. Ignoring them as if their posts are not even there will hopefully be a much more effective strategy then responding back.

If we can all agree to these things and apply them then I think this discussion can be really good. I ask that anyone who does not wish to go with this to not post anything as disruptive comments will not be welcome.
