Homosexuals' Treatment by the Republican Party
Random rant I've been thinking about.
Sorry to single you out, David, but you've raised some interesting points I'd like to address in the "Re: I'm Tired of the Bashing by Bible Bigots" thread.
As a Republican Christian, you (objective, plural you) generally are defensive of individual rights and the defense of the traditional family from what you feel is invasive. I've seen quite a bit of demonization of liberals for what the right-wing media calls self-congradulatory, needless bureaucracy. To a certain point, I'd agree that both "sides" have stopped years of potential growth with their bickering. Specifically, Republicans feel that the opponents are granted certain privelages and that they're constantly playing the "underdog".
So, how is this parallel not noticed? Republicans don't want to be subject under a system they are do not believe in, they disagree with what is considered "objectively beneficial" to their country, and they feel that their opponents are not considering their own views in applying social change.
This is exactly, exactly what a homosexual goes through. They are governed by the laws of people who are inherently against their existence, under a religious system they do not believe in (and one which shouldn't affect the U.S. political system to begin with, but that's an entirely different point). The entire point of a democracy is to elect leaders that you feel represent the constituents. They disagree with what is considered "detrimental to civilization", and they look as their political rights are ignored by the congressmen who are not even slightly sympathetic to their plight.
Every single time I hear a Republican talk about the "liberals" demonizing them or taking away their voice, I automatically lose any sympathy because of the sheer hypocrisy I see in subjugating homosexuals in the same fashion those same Republicans claim to be treated.
Does anyone disagree with this comparison?
