No imminent nuclear threat
Neocons want war in Iran, experts say "Don't be stupid."
The typical fear-mongering trope is that if Iran gets nukes, so will other Middle East countries. This is a recycling of the "domino theory" that pushed the US into the Viet Nam war -- "if Viet Nam goes communist, so will the rest of Southeast Asia". Well, Viet Nam went to a communist political system but earns praise from Citibank for their highly developed capitalist economy.
Two very recent reports stand in opposition to the recent drums-of-war banging from neoconservatives.

Iran shut down all nuclear weapons programs in 2003, much to the disappointment of US and Israeli hawks.
New York Times 03/24/2012: "The False Debate About Attacking Iran"

Quote: "So as we hear talk about military action against Iran, let’s be clear about one thing. Outside Netanyahu’s aides and a fringe of raptors, just about every expert thinks that a military strike at this time would be a catastrophically bad idea. That’s not a debate, but a consensus."
Reuters and NTY are usually recognized for their right-wing bias despite attempting to honor more than a pretense of factuality.
I wonder if *when* Iran has nuclear weaponry they will become a favored net exporter of oil, integrate into global commerce, and necessarily loosen the grip of their authoritarian theocracy.
