Hi everyone - I just thought I'd throw this out there. We're a diverse campus, and it seems irrational - in the question of science, or any question - to say, "yes, diversity except the Catholic Church and its opinions." 

That being said: here is a thought from a Catholic scientist on faith and science.

Vatican astronomer: Science one of the best ways to know God

A few of my own thoughts:

1) I think it's awesome that the Vatican has an Observatory. 

2) Bringing up the sins and mistakes of individual Catholics against Galileo 450 years ago doesn't seem like the best way to discredit the Church's understanding of science and the natural world, especially for mature, intelligent scientists. 

3) For those who will say, "why does the Church have an observatory when it should be serving the poor?" We do both. We pour ourselves for the sake of the poor throughout the entire world, and among our greatest saints and role models are those who spent themselves in service to the poor. Do we always do this perfectly? Of course not. Give me one group that does.
