Academics and Athletic Success
Let's Go Lacrosse!

We at UMBC pride ourselves in our academic success and reputation. I too applaud our recent notoriety and increase in prominence - but I also get the sense that we are losing focus and intensity with our athletic teams.
Being successful in one area does not mean that we cannot achieve similar success in another. Until recently, both our lacrosse teams were consistently and respectably ranked. Now the programs are starting to lose their fine tuning, as we are seeing a marked decline from being in the same league as Virginia, Hopkins, Cornell and UMD.
I and many other students, staff, alumni and friends of the university take great pride in the success of our athletic programs. We support them financially and emotionally and I for one am concerned about the direction we are going. There will always be up and down years, but there are some things that we do that identifies us as leaders: Academics, Chess, Lacrosse.
Academics and Chess are keeping their end of the bargain - it's time for Lacrosse to step it up!
