Fencing Issue in Hillside
posted almost 13 years ago
I would like to take this time to discuss the fencing that has disrupted my stay in Hillside. First, I would like to mention that I am very appreciative and fortunate to live on campus and to have access to the facilities that UMBC has provided me. However, the Construction in Hillside provides a HUGE inconvenience to my daily life.
Unlike Patapsco's renovations, Patapsco building had two exits and during their renovations were limited to one. (This exit was near the road entrance.) Ours however, cuts off all of our entrances and exits and filters us through a route around the fences. A route that leads us to a location where we could have easily accessed our destination if one fence was removed.
It is disappointing to know that family members and friends struggle to visit me because I am caged in this area like a prisoner. The amount of hills and steps that surround the building is definitely not elderly friendly. (I guess Grandma can't come visit me anymore.)
While I do not know the construction plans, I have noticed that there was more time spent figuring out how to stop students from creating short cuts through the fences than actually working on the construction.
I honestly believe there has to be another solution then block off an entire area, especially if you're only working on one building (at a slug's pace) at a time.
Please leave feedback if you feel the same way, are experiencing the same frustration, or just want to vent a little.
