Gingrich is really the GOP front runner?

With my finals essentially over, I've returned my attention to the competition for the GOP nomination and wow has it been informative.
Newt Gingrich is currently in the lead and I'd like to know how. I'll continue to research, but some of the things I've found so far make me shake my head. I've always laughed at the notion that keeping homosexuals from marrying was to "preserve the sanctity of marriage" and yet there's not nearly as big a push to outlaw divorce (which number for number far exceeds gay couples in America), the biggest current threat to the institution. Newt Gingrich opposes gay marriage and has been divorced not once but twice. "But James, sometimes things dont work out. Realistically not everyone turns out to be able to make a marriage work." I'll give you that, I'm not actually knocking divorce here... the cause of the divorces though? Adultery. Both times. Both committed by Newt. Classy individual, right?
And what is this "Loyalty test" I see keep popping up? Did it never occur to them that such a thing might be unconstitutional (in speeches made the only adjective I've heard him use is controversial)? Republicans are the ones who trumpet the importance of the Constitution, but I guess Newt's Christian upbringing didn't help him remember the seventh commandment either.
A year ago I thought Obama's performance was giving the Republicans a tee-ball tee to hit off of for the 2012 election. Now I'm not so sure.
Who looks good to you?
