Re: Know Your Trolls by Erik Walker
Everyone needs to paw Erik's thread
posted almost 13 years ago
I have been perpetually amused by Erik Walker, son of Zeus' content here on myUMBC, but I think I should take the opportunity to state my worry at Mr. Walker's most recent thread, "Know Your Trolls". Erik has posted examples of "harassment" directed at him. I don't think I need to state how silly this is, but I'd like everyone to paw that thread so the myUMBC community can be the judge of that. The purpose of this thread is to reach Erik (he closed his comments because he fears the light, and fears salvation from his disillusioned ways) and hopefully guide him on the right path. He continually ignores logic and pleas for a safe and respectful discussion in lieu for his own soapbox. If any of myUMBC's threads were to be found by searching Erik Walker's name, I plan for this to be the one that sheds away any ounce of speculation, one that points out the facts. For simplicity and relevance I will only address the posts Erik cited specifically about me:
Whenever I have posted something directed at Erik, I have always quoted what he has said, made a response, and said something along the lines of "is it unreasonable for me to have this opinion"? I feel like I've babied him with the utmost patience. The first thread Erik refers to as harassment:
"Reality Check" and "Students for Truth": Toponymy or Deceit
It is important to note that I specifically stated:
"My intentions are not to attack the character of either individual, simply to report factual statements. As such, please respond in a respectful manner. Do you feel that the two groups mentioned are actual organizations, and do you think that there is merit in the given names? I'm curious on the myUMBC community's opinion on the two groups, rather than the opinions they present."
I also stated facts in my original post, and when Erik protested I responded,
"Please point out any lies you may perceive, and I will remedy them."
I don't feel like that is very threatening language. If Erik feels fear from the questions I ask him, then that's a very clear sign of paranoid behavior. I'm worried about you, Erik, if you've become so used to defending your every statement that you feel threatened by the smallest and most casual of commentary.
I feel rather silly for addressing the second thread he mentioned, because it was completely a joke that apparently went over Erik's head. Prior to this thread:
Erik Walker hates Nickelback
Erik was complaining about other myUMBC posters starting threads with his name in the subject line, and I was meaning to joke about the topic in a harmless thread about the universal hatred of Nickelback. Nothing was even remotely targeted at Mr. Walker, and for whatever reason he thinks that the mere mention of his name is libel.
The final thread called into question is my most recent one:
Favorite myUMBC moment
Notice if you will that Erik is irritated when I include NONE of my own commentary and simply post a link to Erik's own rhetoric. I literally posted a link to an older thread where Erik posted "STOP IT COLIN" in huge letters for four+ pages. I have no idea why Erik considers me bringing up his dark past (one would hope that he'd be ashamed at his display) as a targeted harassment. Perhaps Erik is engaging in a cover-up scheme to hide behind regrettable actions, while at the same time refusing to admit any fault. But the truth of the matter, Erik, is that you simply cannot do that while condemning the actions and lifestyles of others; that sense of dishonesty and corruption are incompatible with your stated Christian superiority complex.
If you ever needed anyone to talk to, you may be surprised how receptive the myUMBC posters are. It may be easy to villainize your peers, because it saves you from doubting your alleged infallibility. From my eyes, you seem to be backed into a corner, angry at all this "perceived harassment", and far too stubborn to judge yourself in the same light as you judge others.
I'd like everyone who reads this to also paw Erik's original thread; Erik is presenting content that needs to be looked at carefully. Feel free to comment below regarding your own views, or if you were also accused by Mr. Walker of being a stalker/etc.
