What Do You Like About (Other) Races'/Ethnic Culture?
Time to be NICE
In response to Tyler Jennings' daily hatemongering, I thought it would be a great idea for people to talk about what they enjoy about other cultures; however, this is primarily targetted at undoubtedly American subcultures (African-Americans, Jewish-Americans, Muslim-Americans, etc.). These subcultures tend to form entire close-knit communities and are being integrated into mainstream America more and more. I am fully aware that some people harbor negative feelings for certain subcultures; I'd appreciate that talk in a different thread. This thread is for being NICE and almost annoyingly positive.
Now, I'll start. I LOVE blues music. Truly the building block of all decent music, and pioneers like Eric Johnson, Leadbelly and Howlin' Wolf? Legends. Without the African American (usually southern) communities bringing emotion and meaning to music, we wouldn't have the Beatles/Aretha Franklin/Slipknot/Dr. Dre/etc. The perspective that African Americans gave to the lyrics and instrumentation of the musical world forever changed not only American culture, but international music (spread to Europe, British Invasion, nuff said).
On a slightly less world-changing and more personal note, I absolutely love Indian culture. I can sit down and eat thirty bowls of curry (please don't make me prove it), and their cheesy action b-movies have inspired my sense of slapstick/cinema appreciation monumentally. My Indian friends have brought a sense of humor completely devoid of fart-jokes and vulgarity to my life, and I'm definitely appreciative.
