Building A New Rig For HD Video Editing
posted over 13 years ago
So a friend of mine asked me to build him a computer costing no more
than $600 for editing HD videos. His current setup is pretty old and is
giving him loads of lagging issues. Here's the setup I have come up with so far
and I need your help to see if I can improve anything:
AMD Phenom II X6 1075T
Asus M4A87TD
PNY 8GB DDR3 1333
Seagate Barracuda 1 TB (7200 RPM, 32 MB cache)
Thermaltake 430W PSU
ECS GeForce GTS 450 (probably going to overclock this one)
Thanks for any help.

Looks pretty good.
Just some thoughts:
I would look into getting the 1090T because it has unlocked multipliers. It's only $10 more and it's a whole lot easier bump up to 4ghz.
It may not be necessary, but check out the Corsair H50. It's a pretty good closed-loop liquid cooler. My current rig (1090T) is overclocked to 4ghz and averages around 39C under full load with prime95. Not too shabby.
If you're willing to spend a bit more, I would look into a different powersupply. The two things you generally don't want to skimp on are powersupplies and cases since you can reuse them from build to build. I found that Seasonics seem to be built like tanks. Oddly, you can overload them by a couple hundred watts and they still perform flawlessly. You may want to look into modular powersupplies, too. Otherwise you'll end up with a giant mess of tangled wires that take over the case like an overgrown octopus.
Also, check out the AMD Radeon HD 6850. It's a bit more expensive, but it performs quite a bit better than the GTS450. It also overclocks like a motherfucker (you can easily get 6870 performance out of this with stock voltage)
I found some RAM that is $10 cheaper with slightly better reviews
