Dance Student Orgs
Lack of practice space.......
posted over 9 years ago
I'm a regular old student who dances with a student org and I am really disappointed in the school's apathy for practice space for dance student orgs. The number of dance student orgs is growing yet there's nowhere for us to go. I understand that we all can't be made happy but I really think something should be done!
The only places we really have to practice are commons mainstreet and the old theatre, but those places have curfews! A lot of the dance groups on campus go out and perform and compete off campus, so we really need the time and space to practice. All the different groups are typically fighting over the same spaces, just to be kicked out at 11:30 anyway.
When we practice places, we usually get people passing by whispering things like "I wish they could go to a studio" or "they really need to be out of the way" and I agree with these students.
I don't think it would be crazy if there was some rule where well established dance groups can use studios in the performing arts building. If any of our tuition has gone to or goes to that building then I don't see why we can't use it when it's not in use by dance staff/majors.
What are other people's thoughts on this? (especially other students who are apart of dance student organizations)
