Stem Cell research Controversy
Stem Cell Research: Do you support it? Why or Why not?

July
5th, 1996 was one the greatest days in the history of science.
Scientists succeeded in cloning a sheep from adult somatic cells by using
nuclear transfer. And, a beloved and well-known “Dolly” was born. The stem cell
research (SCR) controversy began when, in 1998, Dr. James Thomson and team were
successful in extracting stem cells from an embryo. The ethical, political and
scientific debate emerged as destroying an embryo for harvesting stem cell was
viewed by pro-lifers as taking a life. It was followed by political debate to
allocate public resources for the SCR, while some were against it. And finally
the scientific debate that focused on the promises that SCR made yet fall short
on producing evidence. Embryonic stem cells are undifferentiated and can give
rise to any other kind of specialized cells. The theoretical applications include
tissue and organ regeneration, which leads to cures for diseases and cloning.
